Please ignore the ugly featured image for this post. I was just about to get up to take a picture of my pretty, pretty jar when a certain demanding cat literally pushed the laptop off of my lap to make room for herself. So I am now stuck on the couch for all eternity or whenever she decides to get up. Whichever comes first.

I absolutely love glass jars. They are so versatile and are an easy way to class up the joint. Unfortunately for crafters, the food companies that sell said jars have this annoying habit of printing the brand name onto the lid of the jar. Nothing puts a damper on a DIY candle than the giant words “Ragu” plaguing the lid.  But have no fear, my fellow upcyclers! You can now easily cover up that ugly lid and make it super duper fancy.

        Supplies:

  • Jar lid
  • Decorative paper (and blank paper for the inside, if desired)
  • Scissors
  • Modge Podge/glue
  • Paintbrush
1. Trace your jar lid on the back of whatever decorative paper your heart desires. (See my tip page for suggestions @ www.craft-cycle.com/2016/11/20/craft-cycle-tips/)

2. Cut around the circle and fringe the edges. The fringe should go all the way to your pencil line. Clearly, my circle is not even close to perfect (#LateNightCrafting), however, as long as your fringe is long enough to reach the underside for your lid, you're golden.

Glue the lid to the center of the paper, then begin to fold the paper over the edges of the lid and glue into place. I found it easiest to brush the glue onto the paper and fold over instead of gluing the actual lid. Then add another layer of glue to the top.

4. Add one for layer of glue/Modge Podge all the way around the lid to hold in place.

6. Cover the inside of your lid with some blank paper to cover the ends.
