I am a huge fan of photo booths, but renting a real photo booth is expensive and frankly you can still have fun having one D.I.Y. style. All you need is a backdrop, a cellphone, and props. What props? I’m glad you asked.

This is a super easy way to make photo booth props and you probably have most of the things you need laying around your house.

Supplies:

  • Thin cardboard
  • Paint and paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Magazine tube (for tutorial, go here)
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Writing utensil

1. Draw your design onto the cardboard. If you’re not so good freehand, you can print images instead or cut them out of magazines and glue them onto the cardboard.

2. Cut the image out.

3. If you are planning to paint your item a light color (hot pink mustache), you can glue on a piece of white scrap paper so that the paint covers the surface without having to put on a million layers.

4. Paint your creation as desired.

5. Hot glue a magazine tube to the back. You can also use a chopstick, dowel, or wooden skewer if you prefer.

Now let loose and create!

You can also add things like bead, scarves, and silly sunglasses as props for your photo booth. I dug into my stash of old Halloween costumes to add a Nimbus 2000, Thor’s hammer, and bunny ears as well.
