Whether you have an awkward orange table (that you bought freshman year of collage and refuse to throw away, because it is still a perfectly good table) or you’re just looking for a change, here is a tutorial on how to quickly put a new spin on old furniture.

Note: Please excuse the horrible lighting in my living room. I know it’s awful; I apologize.

Supplies:

  • Awkward table of your choice
  • Masking tape
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon/string
  • Two old drapes/blankets/towels
1. Stare at awkward table menacingly and lament that you ever thought it could add a nice, quirky touch to any room. (Optional)
2. Fold one drape/blanket/towel so that its width is the height of the table.
3. Spread drape on the floor. Lay table over it.
4. Carefully wrap the drape around the outside of the table, securing the top with masking tape.
Note: If you want, you can leave one side uncovered for secret storage.
5. Take the second drape and fold it so that it is a few inches larger than the table top.
6. Fold the corners of the drape around the table, momentarily securing with tape.
7. Wrap a long piece of ribbon/string around where the top drape overhangs the table. Tie off and remove the taped corners.
If you left one side open, you can…
…create a cozy nook for your beloved feline. And when she inevitably rejects your thoughtfulness, because she only likes using something if it was her idea first, you can…
…store workout equipment or other items that you never, ever use.
