Wine bottles are one of those things that have a million ways to repurpose and reuse them. I personally love crafting with wine bottles, because even before I actually drank wine, I was fascinated by the beautiful bottles it came in. Now that I love sitting down with a splendid glass of wine (shout out to Wollersheim Winery!), these crafts are even more near and dear to my heart. I have made so many items from wine bottles (see Centerpiece, Toilet Paper Holder).

Here is another way to repurpose a wine bottle, by turning it into a handy earring holder that is just as beautiful as it is functional.

In the past, I have tried mesh earring holders and such that are a real pain. The earrings always get stuck or I don’t put them back because they are hard to get in. And who has the time to take off the back of the earring to put it away just to take it back off to put it on? With this method, you can easily hang your earring (with backs intact). I have been using this for a few years now and haven’t had a problem with the earrings falling off. And I am way more likely to actually put them away with this method. Plus, it doubles as a vase.

Supplies:

  • Empty wine bottle (remove label if you choose)
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Juice bottle (you’ll just need the top and bottom sections)
  • Filler (stones, tissue paper, shells, etc.)
  • Optional decorative items (ribbon)
1. Cut the bottom off of the juice container. The container should be large enough to fit the bottom of the wine bottle with some room to space. Next, cut off the top section (where the bottle narrows) from the bottle.
2. Cut off the neck of the juice bottle and place upside down on the neck of the wine bottle. Trim so that it fits evenly onto the desired section of your wine bottle. You can also use a second juice bottle to create a third shelf in the middle if you choose.
3. Place hot glue in the center of the bottom section of the juice bottle and press the wine bottle firmly in place.
4. Then carefully glue the top shelf into place with a line of hot glue all the way around the bottle. I found the easiest method is to place a few dots of glue on all sides of the plastic section then guide into place. Once it is in the desired spot, you can go around the inside (where the plastic piece lines up with the bottle) with a line of glue to secure properly. If you try to put glue all the way around the plastic then guide into place, the glue may smear on the wine bottle as you line it up if you don’t have perfectly steady hands.
5. Add your filler to the inside of both shelves and any other decorative elements.
6. Now you can place your earrings. For my earring holder, it worked best to put shorter/smaller earrings on the bottom and larger/longer earrings on the top.

  1. Very Nice. I love the grumpy cat earnings. I need to get myself a pair of those bad boys.
