5 stars

A delightfully cozy story of a young girl’s visit to Nana’s house filled with good food, good music, and good conversation.

Nicely written with straight-forward text. I love how the proverbs are worked into the story as the girl shares what she has learned at Nana’s house.

The illustrations pair perfectly with the text to demonstrate the meaning of the different proverbs. They nicely showcase the joy and connection of the family gathering.

The proverbs provide wonderful messages about patience, helping others, love, food, and time spent together.

At the back of the book is more information about African proverbs as well as the origin and native language of the different proverbs included in the story.

An adorably sweet story of family, food, and spending time together.
