Follow the journey of Opal Lee from a young girl living in segregated Texas to a passionate volunteer and activist. The book provides information about Lee’s childhood, education, career, volunteerism, and her activism to make Juneteenth recognized as a federal holiday.

Nicely told. I really enjoyed learning more about Lee and all that she has accomplished.

The short chapters make for a manageable read for young readers. There are black-and-white illustrations throughout that pair well with the text.

As with the other She Persisted books in the series, there is a list of How You Can Persist, encouraging readers to learn, share their knowledge, speak up, volunteer, and persist.

A wonderfully encouraging and empowering book. I really enjoy this series and am glad to see how many amazing women have been showcased so far.
