4 stars

A gorgeously illustrated story inspired by Hindu mythology.

When Ganesha was young, he loved going out with his friend Mr. Mouse to collect sweets from the temples to snack on. But after breaking his tusk on a Super Jumbo Jawbreaker Laddoo, Ganesha becomes self-conscious. Until he meets Vyasa who convinces him to use his tusk to write down his one hundred thousand verse poem.

A fun twist on the story of Ganesha writing down the Mahabharata. I enjoyed the different elements at play. Sweet themes of sharing, friendship, and recognizing your talents, even when they make you feel different.

The artwork is stunning. I adored the shapes, colors, and patterns used. Each spread is truly a treat. All the details are breathtaking. And Ganesha as a child was too cute.

Includes an Authors’ Note at the end about the original legend and the changes made for the book. Also includes a pronunciation guide of words used.

A nice way to spark an interest in learning more about Hindu legends and mythology.
