A lovely story of food, reminiscing, and bringing people together.
A child wonders how their chosen family’s Friendsgiving tradition got started, asking different members of the family. They all think they had a part in starting the tradition, but by the end they recognize that the important thing is that they found each other and can spend time together.
I loved the way the characters are connected to different moments in history. The Author’s Note at the end expands on these time periods and communities, providing more information about queer codes throughout time, drag performances, the Lavender Menace, and the ballroom community.
Great illustrations. They perfectly integrate the food, memories, and connections of a family celebrating together.
A sweet story that celebrates identity, found family, and creating community.
