A wonderfully-told story about the lengths a family will go to be reunited.

Efrén lives with his mother, father, and younger siblings, Max and Mía. But Efrén has a secret: both of his parents are undocumented. When his mother is deported, Efrén must step up to help his family as they do everything they can to bring her home.

A heartfelt story. Honestly, this is a story that shouldn’t have to be told, but I am so glad that it exists in the world we live in today. It is sadly so needed and necessary. It gives a realistic look at modern life in America and the real-life fears of children whose parents are undocumented.

There is so much warmth, love, and dedication in this book. Despite the difficult subject matter, it showcases human perseverance and the power of family.

Fantastically handles issues of undocumented immigrants, birthright citizenship, immigration, and deportation. Also includes topics of empathy, friendship, new friends, sibling dynamics, talking about your feelings, and school elections.

Includes a glossary of Spanish terms and phrases used as well.

A well-written and powerful story that wonderfully handles its difficult subject matter with realism and hope.
