Emily likes to have everything a certain way and that includes the cupcakes she makes for the Mini Cupcake Club. Now the stakes are even higher when she and her friends get a commission to make cupcakes for the middle school dance. Will things go as perfectly as Emily wants or end in utter chaos?

I’ll start by saying this is the first of The New Batch series I have read, and I have not read any of the Cupcake Diaries books. Because of that, there was a bit of context I was missing, but the story was simple enough to follow and enjoy.

Nicely written. Nice, short chapters with a fast-paced plot. There are cute black-and-white illustrations on each page spread, which pair well with the story and nicely break up the text for young readers.

Deals a bit with perfectionism. Doesn’t go super deep on working through it, but can be a relatable aspect for readers.

I enjoyed this one. May go back and read some of the earlier books.

A good series about friendship, entrepreneurship, and of course, cupcakes.
