A beautiful story of family, friendship, and adventure.
When Ah-ma doesn’t return from her latest geozoological adventure, Lu sets out to find her in time to see the sunfish eclipse together. Along the way, she’ll use what she’s learned from her grandmother to identify the fascinating geofauna she encounters and help restore balance to their environments. But there are some things her grandmother’s lessons haven’t taught her like dealing with friendship, grief, and making mistakes. She’ll have to navigate her environment and her emotions in order to reach her goal.
This was such a fascinating story. Great themes of family expectations, ecosystem disruption, owning one’s mistakes, and the complications of idolizing our heroes. A great example of how changing one aspect of the environment can impact everything else in the ecosystem.
Beautiful artwork. I really enjoyed the designs of all the geofauna. A wonderful mix of gorgeous scenery, amazing creatures, and humor.
Includes a geozoology guide at the end, which was fascinating, as well as a summary of Hsieh’s comic-making process.
Heartfelt and beautiful, this book provides a wonderful story of adventure, emotion, humor, and connection. Great for fans of fantastical creatures.
