This book really delivers on the magic, the chaos, and the bunnies.
Join a young witch, Abby, as she prepares to spend fall break with her friends Silas, a pumpkinhead; Hannah, a ghost-like entity from another dimension; and Gita, a wolf-girl. She’s looking forward to having fun and practicing potion-making… until she accidentally opens a portal, releasing a hoard of chaos bunnies on North Haven. Now the four friends must work together to figure out how to close the portal and restore order.
It was a little hard for me to get into this one. The story is disjointed at times. You’re pretty much thrown right into it from the start. I had to double check this wasn’t a sequel because it felt like I was already supposed to know the characters. Not much world development. I would’ve liked to learn more about the paranormal world of North Haven.
I also found Abby hard to connect with. But did I love all the side characters. Silas’ war against pumpkin spice lattes, Hannah constantly forgetting her corporeal charm, and Gita’s not-so-secret crush. They were also so fun, humorous, and interesting. The little romantic side-plot was adorable. Those two definitely have chemistry and were so cute.
Lovely illustrations with great character designs. I especially loved the cozy fall color palette.
Includes a fun little peek at the Witch’s Brew Cafe Vlog at the end with a recipe, which was a nice addition.
An enjoyable adventure with plenty of humor, chaos, and paranormal fun. Would have loved to have learned more about the world’s dynamics, but it was entertaining enough.
