A sweet introduction to gender and stereotypes that encourages children to reflect on what they’ve been taught about self expression and interests.
The book discusses the difference between sex and gender, explains gender identity, introduces common stereotypes regarding gender, and highlights famous people who have gone against those stereotypes and rules. It also briefly touches on pronouns, marriage equality, and various forms of family.
Also includes some interesting facts about gender and clothing throughout history, across cultures, and in popular media.
Cute illustrations with Gravels characteristic style and humor. They are informative, including a child-appropriate depiction of sex differences.
I love that the book encourages children to question stereotypes and gender expectations. It focuses on children doing what makes them happy and just being themselves. Sweet, informative, and empowering.
