Now to make the tail of your costume. As with the ears, this technique works for other tails as well, such as rabbit tails. The process of making the tail is similar to that of making the ears (gluing and stuffing technique).

I made Love-a-lot Bear, but you can use the same techniques to make other bears as well. This tutorial is broken down into four sections: tummy patch, ears, tail, and accessories.

Supplies:

  • Scissors
  • Cardboard
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Scrap fabric of desired color
1. Cut the shape of your tail out of the cardboard.

2. As you did with the ears, lay a piece of fabric over the cardboard and glue the edges, leaving one edge unattached.

3. Stuff and glue the remaining edge.

4. Repeat on the other side. You can also glue a strip of fabric along the edges of the tale to create a crisp border (I used the hem of the shirt).

5. To attach, pin the tail into place. Then flip the garment inside out and use safety pins to attach the tail. I used one large safety pin to attach the middle and a smaller safety pin on each side to make it lay nicely.
