by Jaron Lanier

4 stars

Persuasive and informative, this book gives readers a lot to think about.

Even for people who don’t think they’ll ever delete their accounts, I think this is a helpful book for becoming more aware and informed of what it happening within the current social media system.

Lanier examines how social media has impacted politics, economics, psychology, and our mental health. He presents ten arguments for why you should delete your accounts, including the behavior modification aspects, how it undermines facts and truth, and its impact on happiness and empathy.

The main idea of the book is that current social media platforms are not benefiting users and that by deleting your accounts, a new system can be created.

The writing is a bit dense in sections, but overall it was well written.

An informative read that shines light on the impacts of social media and who it actually serves.
