A sweet story about being yourself.

Jacob enjoys wearing the dress from the dress-up corner at school and the way his Halloween witch costume swirls around him. Now he wants to wear a real dress to school. His classmate tells him that boys don’t wear dresses and his parents are hesitant about him wearing a dress outside of home, but Jacob knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to ask for it.

Such an adorable book with wonderful messages.

I love that Jacob is not only able to speak up for himself, but that he has a support system in his friend Emily, his parents, and his teacher. I also like the narration’s focus on Jacob’s feelings. He is anxious about his parent’s reactions, but with their support he gains confidence and stops worrying what others think.

The book showcases bullying and how other children’s parents influence their thinking. But these negative reactions are balanced out by the support that Jacob finds in others, which helps build his self-confidence.

Sweet illustrations, dynamic and colorful. I love how joyful and happy Jacob is in being himself.

I also liked the message that people won’t always understand or agree with you, but that it’s okay to like what you like and to be proud of who you are.

An adorable picture book about pride, self-confidence, and being yourself.
