Thoughts on Ariel and the Big Baby:

Wow, Ariel is kind of a jerk. In this story, Ariel blatantly lies to both Flounder and Sebastian so she can go off and do what she wants. She then calls Flounder a “big baby” when he gets scared. She eventually apologizes to him, but strategically omits admitting that she lied. Not really a fan of this one. I liked that she apologized, but I still don’t think it had very good messages about friendship.

Thoughts on Rapunzel Finds a Friend:

Very cute story about how Pascal and Rapunzel met. I loved that we get to see Rapunzel’s first attempts at painting, baking, and gardening. She is not good at any of them in the beginning. But the more she practices, the better she gets. Great lesson woven into the story. This is a nice little story about meeting new friends and practicing to get better at things you aren’t initially good at.

Overall, I give this one three stars. I really liked the Rapunzel story, but did not like the Ariel one. Both of them had nice illustrations, but I really don’t think Ariel’s story had a good message.
