4 stars

A sweet guide for former children looking to tap into their childlike characteristics in order to better relate to current children and enjoy life more fully. Montague pulls from his experiences on the Listening Tour, visiting schools to learn from their students and teachers and later community elders, as well as other sources such as the teachings of Mr. Rogers.

Complete with lovely and often humorous illustrations, the book itself wonderfully captures that childlike nature Montague presents. Joy, humor, reflection, and insight are packed into every page.

Parts of the book were repetitive because similar themes emerged, but I found it all beneficial. Some of the lessons discussed included being present, finding joy and wonder in everything, and being who you needed as a child.

A wonderful read for embracing life. Whether you’re a parent, educator, someone who works with children, or someone who has no contact with children, this book offers valuable insights for all.
