A good place to start to learn about different holidays and how they are celebrated about the world. Each entry provides an overview of the holiday, often including the event’s origin, foods associated with it, and traditions and customs for celebrating.

The book covers a variety of holidays and festivals, both cultural and religious. Events covered include: New Year, Chinese New Year, Kite Festivals, Rio Carnival, Los Fallas, Holi, Easter, May Day, Eid al-Fitr, Midsummer, Fourth of July, Bastille Day, Venice Regatta, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Mid-Autumn Festival, Halloween, Day of the Dead, Diwali, Thanksgiving, International Festival of the Sahara, Groundhog Day, Hanukkah, Dongii, Anzac Day, and the Christmas Season.

Most holidays have a full page spread with information and colorful illustrations. For holidays celebrated in more than one area, different ways of celebrating are touched on. The artwork is lovely and nicely incorporates various symbols and items associated with each event.

Heavy focus on holidays and how they’re celebrated in Asia, Europe, and the Americas with brief mentions of Africa and Australia.

A nice reference for young readers with colorful illustrations, a variety of traditions shown, and interesting details.
