A stunning graphic novel that perfectly captures the beauty of everyday life cut with the shattering effects of anxiety and PTSD. Manuel works to navigate a world that no long feels safe after witnessing a traumatic event involving gun violence. With the help of some new friends, a supportive therapist, and a love of photography, he learns to find ways to cope and enjoy life and all its simple pleasures.

A 4-H style club, exploring new interests, adorable cows, making new friends, and finding one’s own self. There is so much to enjoy in this splendid graphic novel. It doesn’t shy away from the dark side of life and tackles panic attacks and flashbacks head-on. I loved the support system Manuel has. It was so heartwarming to see.

The artwork in this book is absolutely gorgeous. Amazing use of color that cuts right to the heart. The landscapes and sceneries are breathtaking and the use of light and shadows is phenomenal. Smith really knocked it out of the park.

The story is also heartfelt and wonderful, nicely capturing the ups and downs of life, both the relatable ones and those no one should have to experience.

There’s also a subtle hint at a possible LGBTQ relationship developing, which comes up so naturally in the story. A lovely detail that added even more heart to this remarkable book.
