A kidnapped princess, a prince’s stollen heart, an orphan with mysterious abilities, and a witch out to ruin them all. I thought this was a standalone when I started it, but later found out it will be part of a trilogy. There is much more to tell in this story.

The execution was just okay for me. It felt quite rushed and things weren’t really developed. I didn’t get much of a handle on the characters or the world they live in. Definitely some cool elements, but I couldn’t really connect with the book. The whole world was vague and the characters aren’t developed. Okay story.

Nice artwork that really delivers on the dark fairy tale vibes. I especially enjoyed the designs for the familiars and the wendigo-esque Ymyr.

It’s got some cool things going on, but I never really connected with it. Ends on quite the cliffhanger, setting up the next book. The whole thing seems to be setting up the rest of the series, but doesn’t really deliver on a fulfilling story in itself.
