A beautiful art book for fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The book goes through the conception of Friendship is Magic, various characters and creatures, the show’s settings, some behind the scenes work, and the MLP fandom. Inside you’ll find shots from the show, concept art, clothing design, storyboards, and fan art. There’s also insight from various people involved in the show including designers and executives from DHX Media and Hasbro, and an interview with Lauren Faust.

Filled with fascinating insight into some of the unique challenges of designing a show with pony characters. I found the explanations of how the world is set up with ponies in mind especially interesting. From building design to their outfits, it was neat to see the thought put into so many details, which really show in the final product.

Focuses mostly on the artwork, but gives a bit of information into how it all comes together. Works as a brief overview of some elements of animation, character design, and graphic arts.

An fascinating read. Loved taking a peek behind the scenes of the show.
