So weird.

When a Haddesley patriarch dies, he is released into the bog. In return, the bog produces a bog wife for the new patriarch to continue the compact between the two entities. At least, that’s how the Haddesley siblings have been told it’s supposed to happen. But when their father dies, the siblings face the unexpected and begin to uncover secrets long buried.

Such an odd story that was strangly fascinating.

I enjoyed the writing style. One of those books where you don’t particularly like any of the characters but their circumstances pull you in to see what happens next.

Explores sibling dynamics, trauma, sustainability, and coexistence with nature.

Didn’t love the ableist themes at the beginning but enjoyed it more once we got past those.

Weird characters, an odd story, and great writing make for an interesting read.
