Damn. Another excellently-crafted work from West. I am so thankful Lindy West is on this planet. She has such a way of cutting through all the B.S. to call out what is wrong, doing so in a way that is humorous and entertaining without taking away from her message.
Pulling from pop culture, politics, current events, and her own personal life, West creates a reading experience that will make the reader laugh, think, feel uncomfortable, perhaps tear up, and certainly examine the world around them a little more closely.
I loved this book. At times I didn’t agree 100% with West’s logic or conclusions, but she expresses her points with such clarity/insight/humor/intelligence, that it forces the reader to at least hear her out and consider what she’s saying, instead of just writing her off. She expresses her viewpoints very well and forces the reader to step outside their comfort zone.
Entertaining, enlightening, insightful. There are times when the book is difficult to read as many hard subjects rise up, but through her expert writing, West proves these are things that need to be discussed, that need to stop being hidden in the shadows. At the same time, such issues are often balanced with humor and wit, giving the good with the bad.
An excellent read. Love West’s style. She is an absolute treasure.
