So conflicted about this volume.
I absolutely loved the trial sequence. Great tension and some fun twists as Penelope figures out how to get herself out of the main episode’s current predicament. We also finish up the royal hunting tournament. I don’t love the hunting aspect but it did lead to some interesting interactions. Finally, the Eckharts return home and Penelope reunites with Eckles.
I don’t love the direction the story is taking between Penelope and Eckles. The whole slavery plotline doesn’t work for me and it really intensifies in this volume.
We do see some interesting new challenges and developments within the game dynamics, which I enjoyed.
Beautiful artwork. I do like the art style.
This volume had some really great tension and story building, but the Eckles plotline weirds me out. I really don’t like the dynamic between them. I do enjoy the game aspects of the story but the unaddressed power dynamics Penelope and Eckles kind of pulls me out of it. Not sure if I’ll stick this one out.
