A stunning edition of a powerful poem of grief and healing.
It was nice having read this poem previously in An American Sunrise: Poems. Because I was already familiar with the poem, I could focus on its interplay with the artwork in this edition.
The poem itself is fantastic. There is so much feeling within its words. Wonderfully expressed.
Tiger’s art is gorgeous with stunning colors. As the poem unfolds, the words are paired with sections of her piece, “Most Valuable Power” along with other paintings. The entire piece is displayed at the end. The presentation worked well for me. I really enjoyed getting bits of “Most Valuable Power” first to take in all the details then viewing it as a whole. Absolutely gorgeous.
Highly recommend. A beautiful, powerful poem of death, culture, and the human condition. A great read for fans of Harjo’s work or those in search of healing from the grief of what they missed.
