A fast-paced story that pulls the reader into a magical world of fascinating creatures. Auggie lives on an island and uses his talent to care for the wonderful animals who roam there. Though helped by Fen, Miss Bundt, and the unseen Professor Cake, what Auggie really wants is a friend.
The artwork pairs perfectly with the text. With bright colors and bold patterns, it really captures the whimsy of the story.
I especially enjoyed the word play (a wisp named Willa, Fen the Stick-in-the-Mud).
A nice start to the series that gives just enough background to provide some context while diving right into the action. Looking forward to reading more of Auggie’s adventures helping magical creatures and outsmarting the Rooks.
