Okay read. Definitely a weird one.

I have not watched the show this book is based on, but I have watched the older movies and such so I know the characters. One of the kids I work with likes Alvin and the Chipmunks so I checked this book out at the library for her.

This is a Level Two book, which uses longer sentences and more complex stories. I felt the writing was good, but the story was just okay. I think the message is don’t loot from people in video games unless you know them personally? I feel like a message about too much screen time or not shirking responsibilities to play video games would have made the book stronger.

What I really disliked about the book was the pictures. They are obviously taken directly from the show, which means many of them are very blurry and not very appealing. Also, the first few pages take place in dark rooms, which does not make for very exciting pictures. Much of the page is black or too dark to see much of anything.

I also didn’t like that the Chipettes help out, but aren’t even named in the story. Seemed like a weird omission.

Did not really like this one. Although I did enjoy seeing Theodore as a dwarf/gnome. Pretty adorable.
