I fell in love with this book the moment I saw it. The colors, the designs, the characters, the message. It is just what we needed in the world.

The message of body positivity and loving yourself is not necessarily new to children’s literature, but I’ve need seen it presented in a way that is so authentic and beautiful. It does not come off as cheesy or an over-the-top moral of the story sort of thing. This is just pure, gorgeous, and loving.

The story itself is magical. It’s told in such simple terms but is instantly relatable. We have all said things about our bodies that has not been nice, not necessarily thinking of who might hear or the unintended lessons we teach with such words. This book reminds us all to be more mindful of how we talk about ourselves and others. It’s one thing to say something but if our own actions don’t coincide, we send contradictory messages that could have dark consequences as shown in Zubi’s story. This is also a great way to teach children to be kind to themselves and others and what beautiful means for each of us.

The artwork is simply gorgeous. Each pages is a treat to behold. I loved all the details and facial expressions. The book is absolutely beautiful to look at and its story only adds to the appeal.

Noor also beautifully worked in aspects of Bangladeshi culture in America and I think the book can be read well by everyone. Those within the culture are sure to appreciate the representation and those outside the culture are presented with an opportunity to learn about others. It wasn’t overly explained to the point that someone who knows about Bangladeshi culture would feel talked down to. The inclusion of the Glossary at the end makes the book more accessible to those unfamiliar with the culture. This is such a great example of creating a truly inclusive book.

This book is part of what we need to head into a brighter future, showing love, kindness, and acceptance as a way to a fulfilling worldview. Entertaining, beautiful, and with a crucial message, I couldn’t ask for more from this book. It accomplished so much in just a few pages and I am blown away. A treasure of a book. We need more like this.
