A delicious story of community, family, and generosity.

Every Saturday, Carina visits Tia Mimi’s to make empanadas. But this week, Tia Mimi is volunteering at the food center, which leaves Carina to collect all the ingredients herself. Along the way, she finds that her diverse neighbors all have their own dumpling-style dish.

Loved the connection between different foods across cultures. From empanadas, samosas, and Jamaican patties to mandu, pierogies, and jiazoi. A wonderful celebration of “The same, but different”, as Carina puts it.

Adorable, soft illustrations that feel warm and homey.

Includes an Author’s Note and a recipe for Puerto Rican empanadas at the end.

A wonderful story sure to make you crave a dumpling-style dish of your own.
