A few years ago, I found a pair of shorts that were the perfect length for me (I’ve never been a fan of short shorts). They’re cuffed jean shorts and hit just below the knee. So of course, I had to buy three pairs of them.

Unfortunately, I am rather rough on my jeans and my favorite pair came un-cuffed after awhile.

Luckily, that is an easy fix. Here is how to cuff pants/shorts or re-cuff pants/shorts that were once cuffed but now have sadly become un-cuffed.

Supplies:

  • Pants in need of cuffing
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Iron
  • Ironing board (if you are an adult) (footstool of your favorite reading chair, if you are an adult impersonator)

1. Fold the bottom of one pant leg upward to the desired cuff size.

2. Use the iron to make a sharp crease.

3. Repeat on the other pant leg, ensuring that the legs are even and the cuffs the same size.

4. Knot and thread your needle.

5. At the side seam, starting from the inside, poke the needle through both layers at the top of the cuff and pull through.

6. From here you have two options, you can either sew along the full width of the cuff (up and down) or you can just put in a few stitches at the top. I chose the second option and it has held perfectly fine.

7. Once you are done sewing, tie thread and cut off any extra. Repeat on the other side seam of the pant leg.

8. Repeat on the other pant leg.
