I read an ARC copy in which only the first few pages are in color. Even with that I was blown away by the story and artwork. I read this fairly quickly because I did not want to put it down.

The perfect balance of adorable and absolutely creepy. Bunn really nails the creepy vibes in this one. Not the cutesy creepy that is popular in books for young readers, but actually very unsettling. Human teeth and bones left as gifts, shadows lurking in the night, a cemetery that isn’t as quiet as it first seems. The heartwarming qualities help tone it down so it’s not too scary. Perfect for kids looking for a creepy read.

An exciting book packed with spookiness. There is mystery, adventure, and new friendships. Ghouls, ghosts, and a town with connections to the Salem Witch Trials. I really enjoyed the idea of a friendship between a living human and a ghoul. Lavinia’s character was so interesting and I enjoyed exploring the underground ghoul world.

Gross and unsettling. This book was absolutely creepy in the best of ways. I loved it.
