The party favor tutorial can also be used to make your own Easter “eggs”. A great substitute for plastic eggs that can be recycled, composted, or further upcycled after the egg hunt.

Supplies:

  • cardboard tubes
  • decorating materials (stickers, ribbon, paint, markers, etc.)
  • filling (money, candy, prizes, toys)
1. Gather your toilet paper or paper towel tubes. If using paper towel tubes, cut to size. I cut mine into thirds.
2. At one end, carefully push the sides inward to close off the opening.
3. Fill with prizes. (I raided my cupboards for old uneaten candy. The finding is the fun part anyway.)
4. Close the other end.
5. Decorate however you want. My husband and I decorated “eggs” for each other and used stickers to identify whose was whose when hunting for them. Stickers are perfect for decoration if you want to compost the tubes afterward, because you can easily remove the stickers and toss the tubes in the compost.
My household is all-adult so we added a few “adult” prizes as well by decorating mini wine bottles with ribbon, hiding them around the house, and coming up with a riddle for how to find it. Make your hunt your every own. Have fun and stay safe!
